loved this comparison video, good job for not being as biased as some engineers, because we have to remember, there is always somebody better, its only a matter of time., with that said!!!!!!!! mix 3 from the top down is hands down the cleaner, more solid motion frequencied mix, the elements are in the eyes of the ears.

the whole point of mixing a song is to bring out the emotion.not a 100 snare sounds.

I listened to this in my truck. I didn't hear muchnof a difference as you were manipulating that bass signal. It was like you just took the edge off. As a bass player, I appreciate that you didn't squeeze every bit of dynamic from that signal.

your video sound going out thru the air into my house up a hollor in middle of no ware into my cheap.tv.phone.laptop.dont sound right.when you play songs it sounds like screaming.saying all that i think your signal chain to video over you tube is harsh.your in the red someware.

Listening on Kii Three. Mix 1 - can I have my money back? Mix 2 - very bad masterbus limiting. Makes my brain pump (that's an indication to me that the masterbus compression is bad) Mix 3 - Vocals too loud, in my opinion, and feels like the voice gone sounding weak. Uneven compression overall. Mix 4 - Like one sound guy once said - there's nothing to be ashamed of. IMHO Masterbuss compression is loud! Im just not a fan of loud mixes/masters. They're just too dull. No Air. No open dynamics. But thats IMHO. Mix 5 - can I have my money back? Please double it for making me listen to this horror.

On the piano sustain issue you mention around 25:00, I kinda liked it. Reminded me of the kind of "cut off" arrangement The National would do on some piano tracks, making it less sweet and musical and more stuttery, anxious. I don't know about the original intent of the player, though. Very interesting exercise

Mix 2 is by far my best

Absolutely solid advice, though some of it I would consider guideline rather than hard rule

My buddy has a big studio with a huge ssl console and the reverb seems to be the thing the bands in the alternative rock world wants. It was strange to me at first but now I'm kinda use to hearing with these new bands he's been recording.

Mix 5 actually reminds me of the mixing on The 1975s Part of the Band. It is not conventional, but it makes it stand out, and honestly, while yours and Mix 2 are still best, Mix 5 was way better sounding than the others, the others were very muddy.
